A Virtual Tour of Historic Downtown Austin
(before the day of the skyscraper)

1. Start Flight simulator at any flight. Adjust for Cockpit View
and press W until you have an unobstructed view.

Set your World/ Time and Season settings to night or dusk
to view the lights!

2. Click FSRecorder on the tools menu at top of the screen and select
"PLAY" then select "Tour Historic Austin Southbound.frc"

3. We are at the north end of the Congress avenue scenery heading
south at 600 or so feet altitude directly down Speedway and
Congress Avenue.

HIT THE PAUSE BUTTON ANYTIME TO ENJOY THE VIEW! Use the
standard cockpit view commands to look left, right, etc.

4. At the beginnibg directly in front of us is the University of Texas
campus with its famous belltower. To the left is Memorial Stadium,
home of the Texas Longhorns.

5. PLAYBACK 80/310 (this is the time elapsed indicator in green in
the right lower corner of your FS2004 screen): we are directly
over the campus. Memorial Stadium is out the left window,
the belltower out the right. Directly ahead is the Texas History
Musuem with its small domed roof. In the distance looms the Capitol
Building and various government buildings.

6. PLAYBACK 100/310: The history museum is just below us on the right.
Out the left front window in the distance is the brightly lit
Brackenridge Hospital.

7. PLAYBACK 131/310: we swing back to align with South Congress Avenue.
The state capitol nearly fills our view. Out the right window is
the Texas State Judiciary Building and Supreme Court.

8. PLAYBACK 140/310: Out the left window is the Texas State Library
with Brackenridge Hospital in the distance. Out the left front
window is the tiny, Romanesque Capitol Visitors Center, built
in 1856 as the Land Office Building.

9. PLAYBACK 160/310: Directly ahead on our left is the Stephen F.
Austin Hotel. Just beyond it to the right is the Scarborough
Building. Out the right front window is the Brown Building,
now redone as luxury condos.

10. PLAYBACK 200/310: As we pass the larger buildings, we have a
clear view of the Congress Avenue Bridge and, out the right
front window just beyond the Colorado River, the old Municipal
Auditorium.

11. PLAYBACK 230/310: Out the left window we see one of the famous
Austin Moonlight Towers. 3 are placed in this scenery at accurate
locations. Their history can be viewed at

12. As we approach the river, out the left window in the distance
by I 35 is the circular Holiday Inn South.
